The University of Northampton's School of Health and NVision are hosting a research partnership/networking event to advance ground breaking research that enhances quality of life using immersive 3D and gestural technologies.
This free event includes:
- Experiencing some of the latest 3D visualisation technology including the UK's only 5 sided CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment)
- Hearing about smart assistive technology for enhancing independence and quality of life
- Generating ideas for product developments, environmental adaptations and research projects
- Developing new networks and research teams
Places are limited, early booking is recommended.

Convenors, presenters and facilitators
This event is co-hosted by the School of Health and School of Science and Technology at the University of Northampton. It is an opportunity for individuals, research teams and companies from a wide range of disciplines to be introduced to world leading technology and generate new partnerships to advance research in this area.
Convenors:
Professor Susan Corr
Professor Susan Corr is lead for research in occupational therapy at the University of Northampton. She has a breadth of expertise including research methods that explore individuals’ perceptions about a wide range of topics and evaluating services to enhance living after long term conditions such as a stroke.
Stuart Wayne
Stuart Wayne is Applications Manager for the NVision Technology Centre. He has a broad background of embedding new technologies into the culture and operations of businesses ranging from industrial robotic automation, advanced machine tools then more recently interactive 3D visualisation methodologies and processes.
Presenters:
Professor Judith Sixsmith
Judith Sixsmith is Professor of Public Health Improvement and Implementation at Northampton University. With a background in psychology, Judith's research interests lie in the fields of health, social care and community psychology where she works with people marginalised within social systems, often applying action research frameworks in real world contexts. Taking both qualitative and quantitative approaches, her recent research has been conducted on issues concerning care related technologies for older and disabled people, urban regeneration and community participation.
Gwyneira Waters
Gwyneira Waters is a member of the University of Northampton Service Users and Carers’ Group. Previously employed in the NHS with an academic background in medical law she is now a wheelchair user following a road traffic accident. She brings experience of using a wide range of assistive technologies that include being partnered with an Assistance Dog, Nicki.
Dr Suzanne Martin, University of Ulster
Dr Suzanne Martin is a Reader in Health Sciences at the University of Ulster and a Co-Director of the TRAIL living Lab. Dr Martin is an Occupational Therapist with 16 years community based clinical experience working with people who have complex disabilities or dementia and want to remain at home. Her research interests include new and emerging technologies in health and social care with a focus on promoting empowerment, inclusion and participation. Research projects have focused on technology to support people with acquired brain injury, dementia and fit healthy older people in rural communities. Dr Martin is a contributor to the Cochrane Library and a trainer in Cochrane methods on the Island of Ireland. She is member of the College of Occupational Therapists Research and Development Board.
Facilitator:
Debbie Hewson
Debbie Hewson is a Senior Lecturer within the subject group of occupational therapy at the University of Northampton. Prior to working as a lecturer, she worked in various settings and for over 10 years in the community, specialising in primary care, housing adaptations and assistive technology.
